Live Painting with Melissa Gilbert

Live Painting with Melissa Gilbert

Open Ocean Online | Virtual Event Series

Tune in to Tautai's Instagram Live this Tuesday from 6pm for a live painting session multidisciplinary artist Melissa Gilbert!

“An empowered interpretation of Teina Sa reminds us that ‘every village across the archipelago has it’s own Teine Sa or women who are guarding and protecting the area’.” - Lana Lopesi, 'Bloody Woman', page 45.

"My current work in progress is giving homage to the Teine Sa, Telesa. Since first hearing her story, she was an aitu that perplexed me until I read Lopesi’s perspective through her recent writings in Bloody Woman. Painting with oil on board I hope to do her justice and keep her image around me as a mantle of strength and divine feminine ferocity. Want to see how this work will turn out? Follow me on @meliciousmelmel for updates!" - Melissa Gilbert

Melissa Gilbert (Tongan, Samoan, Fijian and Palagi) is a multi-faceted creator, who taps into themes of identity, healing and spiritualism.

This event is part of Tautai Open Ocean Online and has beenis generously supported by Auckland Unlimited's Reactivate Tāmaki Makaurau Local Activation Programme.
