Toitū Te Moana | Gallery Wall Sanding – Participatory Installation

As part of Toitū Te Moana, one of Tautai’s gallery walls has been sanded back to reveal layers of paint and uncover the whakapapa of the space through the colours left behind from previous exhibitions. As layers are pealed back, we see Tautai’s first year as a gallery and back to shows from Artspace, the former tenants of this site. In the final week of Toitū Te Moana, the community is invited to participate in looking back through the gallery’s history by sanding the paint back and revealing layers of colour and history on Tautai’s walls.
