2022 Artists

>> 2022 DIGITAL MOANA ARTIST EXCHANGE <<

This year also offers the unique opportunity for artists to engage in the ‘Digital Moana Artist Exchange’ based on the Tongan concept of, fehokotaki vā, the act of connecting, bringing together and expanding relationships. Artists will share their final works with a creative from our selected panel to respond to in their chosen medium.

Recipients will be showcased across Tautai’s platforms between October – December 2022, activating the vā digitally and physically throughout the community.

We are so excited to see what these incredible Tagata Moana creatives share with us over the course of the coming months! Make sure you like and follow our Tautai page on Facebook and Instagram to catch each Fale-ship wave as they launch across our channels.

Meet our 2022 Digital Moana Artist Exchange Panelists

The panel, which consists of 5x international Moana artists

Taualofa Taua (Aotearoa), Tevita Tobeyaweni (Fiji), Karlina Mitchell (Australia), Mia Kami (Tonga) and Kaitlin Ngeremokt McManus (Guam)

will run in conjunction with the Fale-ship Residency. As part of the Digital Moana Artist Exchange, one of our five panelists will tautoko/respond to Fale-ship artist works at the conclusion of their residencies.

In the words of Epeli Hau’ofa, we are connected by ‘Our Sea of Islands’, communities of Indigenos and diasporic Moana artists who are making waves from each of their different corners of the world. This exchange creates a space for diasporic makers to share art from their own unique and individual lens. A platform to recognise and celebrate the value that Tagata Moana artists bring to our community locally and on a global scale.

This meeting of two oceans will be captured via ZOOM and will be shared across Tautai’s social media platforms, activating, extending and nurturing the digital vā, and bringing together artists and communities alike.
