OPENING POSTPONED

After the unprecedented flooding of Tāmaki Makaurau last night and Auckland in a State of Emergency, we have decided to postpone this afternoons opening event for ‘The Last Kai’ until further notice.

Our hearts go out to those who have been affected by the flooding. ❤️‍🩹

If it is safe to, please stay home and don’t go out on the roads. Do not drive through flood waters and keep off roads and out of flood zones, if you can.

For more information about civil defence centres and other flood updates head to the Auckland Emergency Management website.

Tautai is proud to present The Last Kai, from mother and daughter tapa-making duo Tui Emma Gillies & Sulieti Fieme’a Burrows MNZM.

Please join us for the opening of The Last Kai on Saturday 28 January, 2pm at Tautai Gallery.

Free event, all welcome. Refreshments provided.

“If The Last Supper was happening in this day and age, we’d hope to see a few more women sitting around the table. And maybe even one at the head of the table.” - Tui Emma Gillies

'The Last Kai' exhibition cleverly uses familiar religious iconography from within Pacific homes to bring up current discussions around women’s representation and the role of Christianity in the modern Pacific household.

Read more about the exhibition here.

On until 18 February 2023.
