LEAN INTO THE PAIN | Exhibition Deactivation Event

Anonymouz, lean into the pain - archives of a tatau thesis, (installation view), 2022

Join artist Anonymouz for the deactivation of lean into the pain: archives of a tatau thesis, a deeply personal exhibition of sound, video and installation exploring the practice of tatau as a framework for life, as seen through the artist’s own experiences.

Guests are welcome to join for all or part of the evening’s events, refreshments provided.

6:30 - 7:15pm | ARTIST WALK AND TALK

A gallery walk through, dissecting the exhibitions core concepts and various included works. Having undergone the tatau journey himself, as well as documenting the process up close over the past decade through audio and video, Anonymouz will share his accumulated learnings and evolving thesis on tatau being a living analogue metaphor; an ancient framework for life gifted to us by our ancestors.

7:30 - 8:15pm | LEANING INTO THE PAIN

Pasifika therapist and consultant Sharyn Wilson explores the nature of pain through the fitting metaphor of tatau. Sharyn discusses some common psychological factors of tatau as experienced by clients who have undergone the tatau journey. She will discuss how this indigenous practice relates to mental health and wellbeing.

8:30pm | RAW TALANOA

An open floor discussion for any attendees to ask questions or share their own thoughts, experiences and views on tatau and any topics explored over the evening.
