We are excited to share a digital preview of our latest exhibition ‘Oh My Ocean,’ curated by Nigel Borell and showcasing works by Tautai Fale-ship 2020 recipients.
‘Oh My Ocean’ is a light-hearted riff on the popular social media phrase ‘Oh My God’ (and its acronym OMG). The show’s name is a play on words, meaning and digital expression, but underneath the jest is a serious statement about Moana people and our integral relationship to the ocean as the centre of one’s world – of one’s identity. In this regard, it is a powerful reclamation of space and cultural renewal.
We acknowledge the nine incredible artists that feature in ‘Oh My Ocean’: Rawiri Brown, Fa’amele Etuale, Ioane Ioane, Elisabeth Kumaran, Sani Muliaumaseali’i, Michel Mulipola, Iata Peautolu, Keva Rands, and Chris Van Doren. We would also like to acknowledge Nigel Borell, ngā mihi for your support in bringing this show to life.
Stay tuned for Michel Mulipola’s work, which will be going up on the Moana Wall on East St soon!
We can’t wait to share this incredible new exhibition with you all when are able to safely reopen. Until then, arohanui, stay safe.
